Lake Erie
Smallmouth
Bass
Lake Erie is now being recognized as one of the top
smallmouth
producing waters in the world, says the Ohio Department of Natural
Resources. Lake Erie's waters are teeming with smallmouth bass!
Smallmouth Bass
fishing is gaining popularity as anglers discover the excitement of
pursuing these high-jumping, feisty fish. If you're looking for an
action packed fishing trip this is it! These bass jump,
twist and turn making them the hardest fighting fish in Lake
Erie.
These plentiful fish are
taken all around Lake Erie's Western Basin island's and reefs. Rocky
structures are key with smallmouth bass, which is why the near
shore reef complex right off my marina makes for amazing smallmouth
fishing, with walleye nearby for great combo
trips.
Smallmouth Bass
catches currently average 14-17 inches, with many larger fish in the 18-20
inch range. Ohio's State Record smallmouth bass was caught
here in Lake Erie's Western Basin islands area, weighing in at 9.5 lbs.
and 23.5 inches in length!
